The Supreme Court of Pakistan has upheld the Election Commission's decision to remove the 'bat' election symbol from former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf party, which became the subject of a dispute and debate in political circles.
On Saturday evening,
a three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz
Isa, set aside the decision of the Peshawar High Court while allowing the
appeal of the Commission Vote for Tehreek-e-Insaf
election symbol.
Currently, the PTI
has a choice between the tribunal and the Supreme Court. Relief can be obtained. PTI may suffer irreparable
damage if not repaired.Currently, in a
situation where PTI cannot execute an individual level campaign, a collective
campaign for PTI will be beneficial and
can only be carried out on one brand.
While some political
and legal circles declared the order
constitutionally valid, many criticized it and argued that weeks before the legislative elections on February
8, the election symbol has been
"erased", which is unfair.
Meanwhile, some
observers question whether the election
can be called clean and transparent even after this decision. So, with all the
alternative strategies and plans, PTI
will try to seek help from the court.
